Trial date set for man accused of sex crimes

AUSTINTOWN — A township man is scheduled to before Judge John Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on Sept. 27, accused of sex crimes against juveniles.

Court records show Eugene Helton, 88, of 1763 Lancaster Drive, faces five counts of gross sexual imposition involving three juvenile female relatives from August to October 2019. One of the victims was 11 at the time.

According to a police report from October 2019, a woman told police that Helton touched the juvenile inappropriately on several occasions at Helton’s residence. The report states Helton put his hands down her pants and underwear, and also touched her bra.

Another police report, filed by another woman, states Helton inappropriately touched two of her female family members, as well. The woman spoke with the two juveniles in December 2019 and both said they were touched underneath their shirts by Helton, the report states. The report notes one of the juveniles said when she was in fourth and fifth grade, Helton would give full massages while she was naked at his residence.

Helton was indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury on the charges July 15. Jail records show Helton was booked then released from Mahoning County jail Tuesday after posting $50,000 bond. He was ordered to have no contact with the victims.
