Tue., 8:35 p.m: Youngstown city schools superintendent to retire

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown City Schools Superintendent Jow Meranto announced his retirement at a school board meeting Tuesday after 18 years with the district.

Meranto will retire June 30.

“I believe it is time to close this chapter of my life and move on to a new chapter,” Meranto wrote in his letter to the school, according to a press release. “In retrospect, I look back at my career with few regrets and can honestly say I could not have chosen a more rewarding profession and fulfilling life.”

District CEO Justin Jennings said Meranto has been an asset to the district.

“Meranto has been a wealth of institutional knowledge and a trusted friend since I arrived at the district,” Jennings stated in the release. “I will miss his advice and counsel.”
