Struthers talks comprehensive plan

STRUTHERS — City officials are working on a plan to map out the city’s future that in turn would lead to more grant opportunities.

Working with K.O Consulting of Struthers, the city has formed a rough draft of a comprehensive plan.

Both Mayor Catherine Cercone Miller and Safety Service Director Tim Daley met with each city council member to talk about the process and document. Cost for the plan is $139,000, which will be paid by grants over multiple years.

So far, K.O. has applied for three other grants to help cover that cost, Daley said.

Each time a grant is awarded, the total will “come off the top of the bill,” Daley said.

The city verified that the price is in the range other cities and neighboring areas have paid for their comprehensive plans, Miller said.

As city officials have talked with other neighboring communities, one “hurdle” they have discussed with Miller is conveying the importance of spending money on a comprehensive plan.
