Coroner identifies first of three men killed in shootings

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office has identified the first of three men shot to death on the South Side as Thomas Williams, 34.

The separate shootings happened Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Williams was found dead in the 3200 block of South Avenue. An autopsy was conducted by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police were called to the area at 11:54 p.m. Thursday by a ShotSpotter notification. ShotSpotter notifies police of gunfire on the South Side.

Officers found Williams in a parking lot. They also learned that a second gunshot victim showed up at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.n

The coroner’s office has not yet released the identities of men who died in shootings on at 4:30 p.m. Friday and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The Friday shooting death was in the 3400 block of Market Street. The Sunday one was in the 109 block of East Auburndale Avenue.

The three homicides brought the total for the year to five.
