YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Coroner’s office has identified the woman killed in a wrong-way accident on the Madison Avenue Expressway Thursday near Youngstown State University as Carole L. Romeo, 74, of Youngstown.

The crash occurred at about 6 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the expressway, also known as U.S. Route 422, when Romeo entered the highway from McGuffey Road going the wrong direction and collided head-on with a pickup truck, which apparently caught on fire. The crash was near the Elm Street overpass and the YSU football stadium.

The truck then hit another vehicle. Youngstown police have not provided any additional information on the crash, such as whether the drivers or the truck and third car were injured.
