Hubbard man guilty of assault

WARREN — A Hubbard man pleaded guilty Tuesday to an amended indictment linked to the Sept. 22 assault on a Hubbard police officer.

David A. Seiple, 63, of 504 Grace St., Hubbard, appeared before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan, who ordered a background investigation be done before sentencing.

Court records show Seiple was indicted Oct. 27 on one count of fourth-degree assault. He pleaded on Tuesday to an amended attempted assault charge, a fifth-degree felony that carries a potential one-year prison sentence.

The case involved Hubbard police and emergency medical personnel responding to a report Sept. 22 of a man down on a city street of an apparent heart attack. Some sort of altercation followed, the reports showed, and a police officer was struck in the chest by a man’s fist.

Seiple, who has been in jail since the incident, asked for a reduced bond and after the plea hearing, Logan reduced the bond for a second time, from $7,500 to $2,500. Court records show that at an arraignment held after his arrest in Girard Municipal Court, Seiple’s bond was set at $15,000.
