Mon. 10:45 a.m.: Burglar invades Liberty home, assaults residents

LIBERTY – A couple reported a home invasion and assault at 960 Royal Arms Drive, early this morning, according to Trumbull County 911.

The couple were awakened shortly after 3 a.m. by the noise of someone breaking into their home.

The burglar was described wearing dark clothing, a mask and a scarf, according to a 911 report.

The victims could not provide a clear description of the burglar, due to the darkness of the home, according to the police report. They were able to describe only the person’s frame, visible when he kept lighting cigarettes. He was described as a heavy-set black male.

The burglar demanded money, as well as the location of the family safe, according to the 911 report.

The burglar then ran out the home’s front door, according to the report.

Police believe the burglar climbed up the side of the house to the roof at the back of the house, where he was able to climb into the bedroom window, according to the report.

Austintown provided its police K-9 to help track the burglar, according to the report.

Shortly after 4:38 a.m., the suspect was tracked heading towards Sampson Drive and Tibbetts Wick Road.

The couple did not seek medical attention.

No arrests have been made. Police continue to investigate.
