Tues. 11:20 a.m.: Police nab two in robbery

YOUNGSTOWN – The Youngstown Police Department made two arrests in the 9:30 a.m. Sunday armed robbery of the Oak Street Dollar General store and believe the suspects may have also committed similar robberies.

Melvin Jackson, 18, of East LaClede Avenue and Edgar Ramirez, 22, of Detroit Avenue were arrested at about 1:48 p.m. Sunday and are likely to be arraigned today in Youngstown Municipal Court.

Police said two males took property and cash after entering the Dollar General. They ran to an unknown location. Officers obtained descriptions of the suspects from witnesses.

Youngstown Police Chief Robin Lees said this morning investigators believe the arrests may have solved several other similar robberies.

“We’ve been plagued by those things and we were afraid somebody was going to get hurt,” Lees said.

In an apparently unrelated robbery, a male walked into the CVS pharmacy, 2846 Mahoning Ave., at 8:57 p.m. Sunday and robbed that store. He was wearing a nylon mask and took money and over 1,700 Oxycodone pills, police said.
