NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Springfield Optimist Club recently presented a $500 contribution to the Springfield High School drone program in support of its expanding STEM initiatives and hands-on aviation education for students.

The presentation was made by Donald Marsco, the most senior active member of the Springfield Optimist Club. Marsco addressed students and faculty alongside drone program instructor Stacy Sahli during a classroom gathering recognizing the program’s growth and impact.

A veteran, longtime businessman and dedicated community servant, Marsco shared words of encouragement rooted in decades of experience. Drawing from his military service, professional leadership and years of involvement with the Optimist Club and Springfield schools, he emphasized discipline, integrity, teamwork and preparation as foundational principles for success.

“Opportunities like this drone program did not exist when many of us were in school,” Marsco noted. “You are being equipped with skills that can open doors in aviation, engineering, technology, and public service. What you build today can shape your future — and possibly our community’s future as well.”

Sahli expressed appreciation for the Optimist Club’s ongoing support, noting that the donation will assist with equipment, training resources and competition opportunities that allow students to apply classroom learning in real-world environments.

The Springfield Optimist Club, aligned with Optimist International’s mission of bringing out the best in youth, has a long history of supporting academic, athletic and extracurricular programs throughout the Springfield Local School District. The drone program represents a forward-thinking initiative that prepares students for emerging career pathways in unmanned aerial systems, robotics and advanced technology.

Starting at $3.23/week.
