Mineral Ridge High School named one of America’s best high schools
MINERAL RIDGE — The Weathersfield Local School District is proud to announce that Mineral Ridge High School has been recognized as one of America’s Best High Schools by U.S. News & World Report. MRHS earned a ranking of 114th out of 903 high schools in Ohio, placing it among the top 13% statewide and making it the highest-ranked high school in Trumbull County.
The U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings evaluate schools based on student achievement on state assessments, graduation rates and college readiness indicators including participation in Advanced Placement and dual enrollment coursework.
Principal Joe Stevens praised the achievement, saying, “This recognition is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our students, staff and families. We are committed to creating an environment where every student can reach their full potential — academically, personally and beyond. I’m incredibly proud of our entire school community for earning this distinction.”
In recent years, MRHS has expanded its daily schedule to offer a diverse selection of academic programs ranging from college preparatory to career-technical pathways. Students have the opportunity to enroll in 12 advanced courses, including college credit classes taught in-house by MRHS instructors, as well as a drone pre-apprenticeship course that allows students to earn a commercial drone pilot’s license upon completion. According to the 2025 Ohio School Report Card, released in September, MRHS achieves a 96% graduation rate, exceeding state standards.
Superintendent Damon Dohar added, “Being named one of America’s Best High Schools is a real testament to the consistent effort and excellence across our district. Seaborn Elementary was just recognized as one of the Best Elementary Schools in Ohio for the fourth time, and now this honor for the high school really shows that academic excellence in Weathersfield truly begins at an early age and continues all the way through graduation. We are proud of our staff and students for setting a standard of success that makes Mineral Ridge and Weathersfield stand out.”
