COMMUNITY NEWS: AAUW plans talk on overcoming obstacles

AAUW TALK: American Association of University Women, Youngstown branch, is hosting “Overcoming the Inner Critic: Four Common Obstacles and Solutions” 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Main Branch of the Mahoning County Public Library in Room 205. The presenter is Lori Gorrell, a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation who founded Upward Solutions Coaching and Consulting in 2009, with a Master of Science in Management..

VENDOR SHOW: The Friends of Fido 12th annual spring vendor show will take place 11 a.m.. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Tippecanoe Country Club, 5870 Tippecanoe Road, Canfield, The event will include vendors and crafts. Friends of Fido is an advocacy group for the Mahoning County Dog Pound providing dogs with medical care and transport.

SETON TO MEET: Seton III, a Catholic women’s service organization, will have its monthly meeting at noon Thursday at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. The prayer will be led by Georgianna D’Andrea. The speaker will be Kathie McNabb Welsh, chief deputy of the Mahoning County Clerk of Courts Office, who will speak on the naturalization process. Hostesses will be Pat Jacobucci, Ellen Carney and Elaine Powell.

FUNDRAISER SET: Dylan’s House, a nonprofit organization devoted to empowering and enriching the lives of autistic individuals in the Mahoning Valley, is hosting Sunday Funday, its largest fundraising event of the year, 2 to 7 p.m. April 13, at Penguin City Brewing, 460 E. Federal St., Youngstown.

In 2024, more than 600 attendees helped the organization raise over $145,000. The event also will include a performance by local band RDNA, raffle baskets, silent auctions, photo booths, drink specials and more. Local food trucks will be on site.

CANFIELD SOCIETY: The Canfield Historical Society invites the public to explore Canfield’s past in a fun and interactive way at the Canfield Museum Hop 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Participants will visit five unique sites, offering a special activity or event. Pre-purchase is $10 with each person entered into a drawing for a prize basket worth $150. MASTER GARDENER: The Girard Free Library will welcome Wanda Thomas, a Trumbull County Master Gardener, at 6 p.m. Wednesday. She will guide people through the essential steps to prepare their garden for the growing season ahead. She will provide tips for soil preparation and pest management. Registration online or in person at the library.

GUEST SPEAKER: The Gathering Place event will take place 11 a.m. April 14 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 55 N. Main St. Canfield. Guest is James Frost, a Berlin Lake park ranger who will discuss the importance of U.S Army Corps Of Engineers Reservoirs around the Mahoning Valley, The free community outreach is offered to all seniors. A box lunch will be provided.
