Salvation Army offers food

SALVATION ARMY HAS TAKE-HOME: The Salvation Army of Mahoning County announced that it is prepared to care for the families and children of the Youngstown area during this time of heightened concern due to the COVID-19 virus.

Maj. Paul Moore, area coordinator for the Salvation Army of Mahoning County, said food pantry bags and take-home lunches will be provided to anyone in need.

Food or monetary donations are appreciated and can be dropped off at The Salvation Army, 1501 Glenwood Ave. To make a donation, text MCASOH to 41444 or friend Salvation Army of Mahoning County on Facebook.

TIMBER EDUCATION: The Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District recently announced its partnership with the Ohio Farm Bureau of Mahoning County, Northeastern Ohio Forestry Association, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Forestry Division to present a three-part forestry workshop series this spring at MCCTC, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, Canfield.

Agricultural specialists and technicians will discuss strategies for logging activity, including proper timber harvest standards, best management practices for controlling invasive species and reducing soil erosion.

The dates for the 2020 Timber Education Series, “Money Can Grow on Trees,” are April 21, “Invasive Species Control,” and May 12, “Timber Stand Improvement.”

Each session includes a buffet-style dinner at 5:30 p.m., with the workshop to follow. The sessions are free. RSVPs are required by contacting Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District at 330-740-7995 or email askswcd@mahoningcountyoh.gov.

CRAFT SHOW CANCELED: 20 over 9 Amateur Radio Club seventh annual craft show at the Austintown Senior Center on Saturday is canceled.

GROUPS MEETING CANCELED: The Help Network of Ohio monthly support group of the Survivors of Suicide in Mahoning County canceled its Wednesday meeting at Disciples Christian Church in Boardman.
