REGISTER NOW: Starting Saturday, the Boardman Fire Department, working in conjunction with the American Heart Association, will provide interactive CPR classes to anyone in the community.

Classes require registration and payment. Upon completion of the course, a two-year certification will be issued.

Classes for heartsaver CPR / AED at $50 will be offered Feb. 6, March 5, April 9, May 7 and June 11, and basic life support heart care provider CPR at $40 on Feb. 27, March 19, April 18, May 21 and June 18. BLS provider renewal course upon request at $30.

PAPER QUILLING: The Paul and Yetta Gluck School of Visual Arts at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is offering Paper Quilling Crafts from Feb. 12. Participants will take ordinary strips of paper and turn them into works of art in this workshop with a local artist.

A workshop for adults will be from 11 a.m. to noon. A workshop for ages 14 and older will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers.

GRASS ROOTS GALA: Youngstown CityScape, the community development corporation that has been revitalizing the greater downtown area through beautification, preservation and education for 23 years, will host its 11th annual Grass Roots Gala honoring Home Savings Bank and Gary Small 5:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 27 at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Since 2010, Youngstown CityScape has awarded the Sweet Grass Roots Award to an individual or group making significant personal and professional commitment to the organization’s mission of revitalizing downtown Youngstown.

Home Savings has supported economic and community development in Youngstown through its charitable foundation. As a CityScape board member, Gary Small has contributed to the mission of developing green space and promoting projects that help create a sense of place.
