Area unemployment falls in September

Staff report Unemployment dipped in the Mahoning Valley from the August to September reporting periods, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported. Mahoning County saw a 4.7% unemployment rate in September compared to 5.7% the prior month. The state said 4,900 of Mahoning’s 104,200 workforce did not hold jobs in September. Going from 7.5% to 6%, Youngstown witnessed its unemployment figure fall 1.5 percentage points during the same period. Of the city’s 22,100 workers, 1,300 were unemployed in September.
