New vehicle sales up 25% in October

WARREN — New vehicle sales across Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties last month were nearly 25% in front of the mark automobile dealers set in October 2022, according to the latest data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

Dealers sold 2,317 new vehicles to buyers in the region, up from 1,856, while sales of new and used vehicles rose 9.7%, from 3,941 in October 2022 to 4,326 last month, according to the association.

Used vehicle sales slipped, albeit modestly, to 1,923, or 3.8% less than the 2,000 units moved last year.

Dealerships in Mahoning County with the most sales to local buyers in October were Greenwood Chevrolet, the No. 1-selling dealership in the Mahoning Valley, 230; Boardman Subaru, 212; and Toyota of Boardman, 199.

The top new vehicle sellers were Toyota of Boardman, 151; Boardman Subaru, 137; and #1 Cochran Chevrolet, 135. Topping the used vehicle list were Greenwood Chevrolet, 111; Fred Martin Ford, 100; and Stadium Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac, 85.

Across northern Ohio, dealers sold 18,938 new cars, trucks and SUVs in October, a 15.6% increase from what the association called a “soft 2022.” There were 17,946 used vehicles sold, of 0.5% from last year.

“The northern Ohio market continued growth in both new and used vehicle sales in October,” Louis A. Vitantonio, association president, said. “In addition, we did not see much of an effect on vehicle sales from the recently ended UAW strikes, as many of the dealerships had sufficient inventory to satisfy consumer need. We still see some pent-up demand in the region; however, affordability continues to weigh on the market.”

Topping the sales leader board for the greater Cleveland region was Chevrolet with 2,714 new vehicles sold. Next in line was Ford with 2,195 followed by Toyota, 1,784; Honda, 1,715; and Kia, 1,526, according to the association.

The report also shows there were 396 Tesla’s sold last month, up from 121 in October 2022.
