AUSTINTOWN — Wagering on video lottery terminals last month at Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Race Course eclipsed $87.3 million, but December marked the fourth month in row the racino saw betting decline.

Similarly, wagering at all of Ohio’s seven racinos shrunk, too, for the month, the second consecutive one where betting has fallen, according to the latest numbers from the Ohio Lottery Commission, which oversees video lottery terminals, or VLTs, in Ohio.

Betting at the Austintown racino last month was down 4.8 percent from November, when bettors played $91.7 million in credits. In December 2019, bettors wagered $109.3 million.

The racino in December reported bettors won $77.5 million, down from $81.4 million in November, and a net win of $8.3 million, down from $8.8 million the previous month. The percent payout was 90.49 compared to 90.4 percent in November; the win / VLT per day was $238, down $23; and there were 1,126 VLTs on the game floor, down three.

In comparison, bettors won $97 million in credits and the casino reported a net win of $10.7 million in December 2019. The percent payout was 90.1, the average number of VLTs was 1,101 and the win / VLT per day was $316.

Of the net winnings last month, $5.4 million went to casino operator, Wyomissing, Pa.-based Penn National Gaming Inc., $2.7 million to the lottery commission and $27,612 went to support programs that provide support for gambling addiction and related services.

The commission reported across the state, bettors wagered $827 million in December, the second month in a row wagering fell below $1 billion. The last time that happened was in July.

Players won $740.4 million, down from $743.6 million in November, and the casinos reported a net win of $72.7 million, down from $73.8 million the prior month. The percent payout was 91.2, up from 91.1; there were an average of 10,665 VLTs on the game floor, down from 10,783; and the win / VLT per day was $220, down $8 from November.

In December 2019, players bet $1.04 billion, won $930.5 million in credits and casinos reported a net win of $94.8 million. There was a 90.9 percent pay, an average of 11,526 machines in play and the win / VLT per day was $266.

Last month, $48.1 million was given to operators, $24.3 million to the lottery commission and $241,767 to problem gambling services.
