Trump Jr. expected in Valley on Monday

Donald Trump Jr., the oldest son of the president, is expected to headline a campaign rally Monday in the Mahoning Valley, according to sources.

The details are still being finalized, but the location is expected to be the Maronite Center on South Meridian Road in Youngstown, sources say.

The Trump campaign is expected to provide details of the event as soon as today.

An advanced team and the Secret Service recently visited possible locations in the area, sources say.

Thomas McCabe, Mahoning County Republican Party chairman, said: “I’ve heard the same rumors you’ve heard, but I can’t confirm” the visit.

Trump Jr.’s most recent stop in Ohio was at a Thursday rally in Steubenville.

At a Sept. 30 campaign rally in Tipp City, the day after the first presidential debate, Trump Jr. spoke in support of his father and said Democrat Joe Biden isn’t fit to be president.

With polls showing a tight race in Ohio between President Donald Trump, a Republican, and Biden, a former vice president, the campaigns have made several stops in the state in the past six weeks.

Vice President Mike Pence, who’s made the most campaign visits to Ohio in recent weeks, was to have a rally today in Swanton, while Trump will be in Circleville on Saturday.

U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris of California, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, will campaign Saturday in Cleveland.

But with the election 11 days away, none of the four have visited the Mahoning Valley and no stops by any have been announced for the area.

It would be the first time in decades that the region hasn’t hosted a campaign visit from a presidential or vice presidential candidate during an election year.

Trump beat Democrat Hillary Clinton in Ohio by 8.13 percent.

Trump became the first Republican since 1972 to win Trumbull County, beating Clinton by 6.22 percent.

He lost Mahoning County to Clinton by 3.28 percent.

Mahoning and Trumbull counties have long been Democratic strongholds.
