Holiday concert raises funds for food bank

The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band and the Stambaugh Chorus will raise funds for Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley with the 15th Holiday Concert Of Giving. Both the band and chorus are volunteer groups featuring musicians and singers from all over the Mahoning Valley. GSO presents ‘Home Alone and Holiday Hits’

The Greenville Symphony Orchestra will celebrate the season with “Home Alone and Holiday Hits.” Joining the orchestra for the holiday concert will be the GSO Jazz Band, guest vocalists Emily Misch and Max Pivik, the SAY Children’s Chorus, directed by Julie Freeman Kerr, and the Shenango Valley Chorale, directed by Erich Lascek. NEW YORK (AP) — There are giants, and then there is Donna Summer. The Queen of Disco and then some, known for such timeless tunes as “Love to Love You Baby,” “I Feel Love,” “Bad Girls,” “Dim All the Lights,” “On the Radio” and “She Works Hard for the Money,” has been posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the hall said. A live artist demonstration with Julia Betts is scheduled 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McDonough Museum of Art, 525 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Betts is an artist-in-residence at Akron Soul Train and is known for her innovative pour-process technique that transforms paint into sculptural form.
