Stambaugh features Tuba carols, vendors
A brassy tradition brings holiday cheer to Stambaugh Auditorium on Sunday with TubaChristmas.
This is the ninth year for TubaChristmas at Stambaugh and the 52st year for the tradition nationwide that was conceived in 1974 by Harvey Phillips as a tribute to his teacher and mentor, William J. Bell, who was born on Christmas Day. Tuba and sousaphone players performed special arrangements of Christmas carols at New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink, and the tradition has spread internationally.
The Youngstown concert has attracted nearly 100 participants in past years.
