BHS gets 2Saxy with Jazz Fest
The saxophone duo 2Saxy will be the guest artists for the 23rd Boardman High School Jazz Fest. 2Saxy is made up of Leo P and Grace Kelly.
Leo P first attracted attention as a baritone saxophone player — and for his dance moves — with the band Too Many Zooz.
Kelly is a musical prodigy who performed at President Barack Obama’s inauguration at age 16. She has played at the Hollywood Bowl and as a member of the house band for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” In 2022 she became the youngest member of Berklee College of Music’s Board of Trustees.
As 2Saxy, a half dozen of the pair’s YouTube videos have more than a half million views each. They are passionate about music education and have a complete online curriculum that continues to serve thousands of students all over the world.
2Saxy will perform many of their most popular hits with the Boardman Jazz groups — Jazz Ensembles 1 & 2, the 8th Grade Jazz Ensemble, and the 2K25 Pop/Rock Band — including “Fish and Chips,” “Cookie Dough” and “Pokemon Theme.” They also will do master classes with students the day of the concert.
This will be the final BHS Jazz Fest for Director of Bands Thomas Ruggieri, who is retiring after 26 years at the high school.
The concert starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Boardman Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students.
