Ensembles raise money for Second Harvest with concert

The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band and the Stambaugh Chorus will team up for its 14th “Holiday Concert Of Giving” on Sunday.

Both the YACCB and Stambaugh Chorus are volunteer groups of musicians from all over the Mahoning Valley.

The chorus, directed by Hae-Jong Lee, will perform first, and its program will include “Moods Of Christmas,” “Go Tell It on the Mountain” and a medley of “What Child Is This?” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “Bring A Torch, Jeanette, Isabella.”

The band, conducted by Mr. Joseph Pellegrini, will follow, and its “Christmas Swings” program will include “Mary’s Boy Child” and “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

Both acts will unite for a finale featuring “O Come All Ye Faithful” and the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.”

The concert starts at 2 p.m. Sunday at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, and ensembles from YACCB will entertain guests as they enter the auditorium when doors open at 1:30 p.m.

Admission is free with donations being collected at the concert, which is part of WFMJ’s Project: Feed Our Valley campaign.

Since the concert started in 2011, the band and chorus have raised nearly $59,000 for the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. Both groups share the cost of the concert, so 100% of the money donated goes directly to the food bank.

Food donations will not be collected at the performance.

Those attending can donate by cash or check (made out to Second Harvest Food Bank).

Starting at $2.99/week.
