Tamburitzans bring folk music, dance to DeYor Center

The Tamburitzans return to DeYor Performing Arts Center on Sunday.

The ensemble performs the traditional songs and dance of Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovakia, Armenia, Spain and Romania.

According to Artistic Director George “Butch” Kresovich, “It’s folk … with a fresh coat of paint. Tradition and modernity, education and entertainment, these are all ingredients mixed to perfection to craft a phenomenal show.”

All performers are still full-time college students at a Pittsburgh-based college or University. Traveling on the weekends to share their talents, they then return to Pennsylvania just in time for class Monday mornings.

Two members of the current troupe are Mahoning Valley natives.

Giannah Marasovich, a 2019 Canfield High School graduate, is in her sixth year with the ensemble as a singer and musician and is working on her master’s degree in history at Duquesne University

“My years with the Tamburitzans changed my life and expanded my horizons,” according to Marasovich. “I have performed with them in New York City, Seattle, Houston and more.
