McGuffey Society brings back recitals
After a five-year hiatus, due to COVID-19, the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society will resume its Music in the Afternoon recitals.
The Steinway grand piano presentation will feature Roman Rudnytsky, a professor emeritus at Dana School of Music, and Michael Nichols, winner of the Dana School of Music Young Artist Competition, along with accompanying pianists Diane Yazvac and Ash Haughey.
Selections by Maurice Ravel, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Josef Marx, Gioacchino Rossini, Claude Debussy, Mily Balakirev, Ludwig van Beethoven and Ash Haughey will be played.
Born in New York and trained at Juilliard, Rudnytsky has performed in more than 100 countries and on 70 cruises.
Nichols has been performing since he was 11 years old and is a graduate of Chaney VPA School, Youngstown. He is a keyboard performance major at Youngstown State University. He has studied with both Caroline Oltmanns and the late Sean Baran.
The concert starts at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ursuline Center Auditorium, 4280 Shields Road, Canfield. Doors open at 2 p.m. A goodwill offering of $10 for McGuffey members and $15 for nonmembers will be accepted at the door.
