Columbus artist comes to YSU for print project
The 2024 Red Press Collaborative program welcomes Michael Weigman as this year’s guest artist.
The Red Press Collaborative is an annual event that hosts a celebrated printmaker for one week to work with Youngstown State University art department students. During that time, a limited-edition print is created in collaboration between the visiting artist and art students. The final print will be made available for ownership via a donation of $125.
Weigman is an artist, printmaker and educator living in Columbus. He received his master’s degree from Northern Illinois University with a focus in printmaking. Much of Weigman’s work explores a personal mythos, combining elements of his suburban upbringing, obsession with history and fascination with subcultures found in extreme metal music.
Beyond being a practicing artist, Weigman manages the print shop Upright Press and is a member of the Columbus Printed Art Center and a freelance illustrator.
Weigman will work on the publication of his print from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Nov. 8 in the printmaking studio in room 4025 of Bliss Hall. He will present a portfolio talk and hold a reception 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in room 4025.
The public is invited to watch the creative process. Admission is free.
