Rust Belt finds new shows to spoof
Rust Belt Theater Company brings back its musical revue “Forbidden Youngstown” for a four-performance run.
Writer-director Robert Dennick Joki has added new material to the revue that finds humor in theater culture and the city of Youngstown, including a parody medley of “Little Shop of Horrors” titled “Lil Shoppa Trauma” and songs poking fun at the musicals “9 to 5” and “Mary Poppins.”
The cast features Heather Powell, Lisa Torrence, Charity Bauer, PK Lankford, Janelle Yohman, Jessica Willard, Alex Kluchar, Caitlyn Murphy, Vicci Sfikas, Brooke Jonas, Sarah Whitlatch, Diane Marie and Joki.
It will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through July 27 at Club Switch, 221 Belmont Ave., Youngstown. “Forbidden Youngstown” will be staged on the outdoor patio, but it will move indoors if weather necessitates.
The Saturday performance this weekend also will include a bonus performance by drag entertainer Denise Russell at 10 p.m.
Her live vocal comedy and impersonations have earned her the nickname “The Voice,” and Russell is the only female impersonator to have performed at the Grand Ole Opry.
Tickets for all shows are $15 and can be reserved by calling 330-507-2358.
