Kent-Trumbull schedules Summer Stock auditions

Kent State University at Trumbull Theatre will have auditions this month for its two Summer Stock productions.

The summer musical will be “American Idiot,” built around the songs of Green Day. It ran for a year on Broadway in 2010-11 and received three Tony nominations.

Auditions are open to performers ages 16 and older. Those under 18 years old will need signed permission by a parent or guardian before being cast.

Those auditioning should prepare 16 bars of a rock musical theater song not from “American Idiot.” Performers also will be asked to sing scales and participate in a group dance audition.

Auditions are scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. April 11 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 13 at Kent-Trumbull, 4314 Mahoning Ave. NW, Champion.

“American Idiot” will run for two weekends starting July 18.

“The Magic of Books” is this summer’s children’s production that will tour area libraries. Auditions are open to students ages 10 to 15 and will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. April 18.

Those auditioning should prepare a memorized, minute-long monologue and be prepared to sight read from the script.
