New Music Guild announces fall concert

Sylvia Games DuBos and Patrick Wickliffe will be the guest artists for the New Music Guild’s 12th Fall Concert.

DuBos is a cellist who was born in Argentina. She is principal cellist of the Washington (Pa.) and Greenville symphonies and is a member of the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra’s cello section. She previously was principal cellist of the symphonies of Duquesne University and the Symphony Orchestra of Lanus National University in Argentina.

She has a master’s degree from Duquesne University and currently runs a large private studio in Pittsburgh.

Wickliffe is a pianist and composer with advance degrees from Kent State University and the University of Cincinnati. For the last 10 years, he has been active as a church musician in greater Cleveland.

The concert will open with performances by New Music Guild Coordinators, Gwyneth Rollin, violin, and Robert Rollin, piano. They will play several of Robert Rollin’s works, including “Night Thoughts I,” “Lyric Counterpoint on a Theme by Warshawsky” and “Seven Sound-Images.”

DuBos will reprise “Remembering Sally,”written in memory of violinist Sally Moloy Dolovy and will premiere a new composition in memory Rollin’s longtime friend Wayne Kankovsky, who was a trombonist and community activist. DuBos and Wickliffe will perform an Argentinian tango, a movement by Bach and two Rollin pieces.

The concert starts at 3 p.m. Sunday at SS. Peter and Paul Church, Holy Apostles Parish, 421 Covington St., Youngstown. Admission is free, and an after party with refreshments in honor of DuBos and Wickliffe will take place at the Church basement fellowship hall.
