YourArts announces summer camp

YOUNGSTOWN — The YourArts Summer Camp will run July 10 to 14 at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown.

Previously known as the Stambaugh Summer Arts Camp, the event is designed to increase children’s access to, knowledge of and appreciation for the arts with national and regional arts organizations.

Up to 50 school-age children will participate in the camp, which culminates with a full-scale musical production of “Rapunzel.”

Missoula Children’s Theatre, based in Montana, will work with students, and local arts organizations providing hands-on educational workshops during the camp include Ballet Western Reserve, Lit Youngstown, Castle on a Cloud Entertainment, MAC Experience, Opera Western Reserve, Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and Youngstown Playhouse.

YourArts is partnering with the City of Youngstown Department of Parks and Recreation and Boys and Girls Club to make the camp available to interested students who already are enrolled in one of Youngstown’s summer day camp programs, and students can take part in the YourArts Summer Camp through participation in those programs.

Emelia Sherin, education coordinator at Stambaugh, said, “We want to work with students to give them arts accessibility and experiences they may not have regularly in schools.”

With the support of sponsors and underwriters, YourArts’ goal is to make the camp free for participants. To help, contact Marleen Ocheltree, marketing and sponsorship coordinator by calling 330-747-5175 or emailing mocheltree@stambaughauditorium.com or go to experienceyourarts.org.
