YSU stages Mozart opera in 3 performances

The Dana School of Music will present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera “Cosi fan tutte” this weekend.

The opera, featuring a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, will be sung in Italian with supertitles and recitatives in English. It tells the story of two young soldiers who accept an older friend’s wager that the woman they love will not remain faithful in their absence. They return in disguise and woo each other’s fiancee with Mozart’s beautiful melodies.

Performing on Friday and Sunday will be CJ Thompson, East Cleveland; Emilio Santiago, Hermitage, Pa.; Palmer Stillio, North Huntington, Pa; Brianne Samson, Sharon, Pa.; Jaelynn Mack, Dayton; and Justine Snowden, Ohioville, Pa. The cast on Saturday will feature Thompson and Santiago along with Austin Angus, Niles; Amanda Bertilacci, Niles; Rachel Gardner, Cleveland; and Chloe Downey, New Waterford.

Misook Yun directs the Youngstown State University’s opera program. Susan Foster is stage director / scenic designer for “Cosi fan tutte.” Kathy Miller provides piano accompaniment, Zoe Nocera is lighting designer, Katherine Garlick is costume designer and Ryan Fitzpatrick is theater manager.

“Cosi fan tutte” will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in Bliss Hall’s Spotlight Theater. General admission tickets are $8 with YSU students admitted free with a valid ID. Tickets are available online at www.ysu.tix.com and at the University Theatre box office one hour before the performance.
