Boardman to make musical Mayhem

Project Mayhem, Boardman High School’s rock orchestra, celebrates its 18th year with a concert Friday at the Boardman Performing Arts Center.

The concert features the Boardman Orchestra joined by students on vocals and accompanied by a professional laser light show. This year’s production includes the addition of “smoke cannons” and some new songs to join past favorites.

Boardman started the Trans-Siberian Orchestra-style ensemble in 2006, and the annual concert traditionally sells out.

According to Project Mayhem Director Bill Amandol, “It’s remarkable that many of our musicians were only babies — some not even born yet — when we began this journey. These 45 students audition for their spots and practice year-round after school to prepare. It’s a labor of love that allows them to be ‘rock stars’ on our BPAC stage.”

The concert starts at 7 p.m. at the center, 7777 Glenwood Ave. All seating is general admission. Tickets are $10 and are available in advance at the Boardman High School main entrance from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
