TubaChristmas, craft show set for Stambaugh Auditorium on Sunday
A holiday craft show will be part of the festivities for Sunday’s TubaChristmas in the Valley concert at Stambaugh Auditorium.
The concert features a volunteer orchestra of bass horn players playing special arrangements of holiday favorites.
While TubaChristmas has been a Mahoning Valley tradition for more than 20 years, this is the 48th anniversary of the first TubaChristmas. It was conceived by Harvey Phillips as a tribute to his teacher and mentor, William J. Bell, born Christmas Day 1902. The first TubaChristmas was conducted by Paul Lavalle in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on Sunday, Dec. 22, 1974.
Past events locally have drawn close to 100 tuba and euphonium players ranging in age from 7 to 92. Performers can register at stambaughauditorium.com/tubachristmas
The concert will start at 3:30 p.m. at Stambaugh, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, and is free to attend. It also will be livestreamed on Stambaugh’s Digital Concert Hall app.
Also taking place at the venue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday will be a craft show including holiday decor, baked goods, pet apparel, handmade artwork and holiday ornaments on all three floors. Food and beverages also will be available for purchase. For more information, call 330-747-5175.
