Rust Belt turns Club Switch into ‘Madhouse’
The Rust Belt Theater Company will stage the dark comedy “Madhouse” for a two-weekend run.
Written by Robert Dennick Joki, “Madhouse” is the story of a woman, played by Celena Coven, who has a mental breakdown after the death of her brother. She begins to experience symptoms of psychosis, specifically pareidolia, which causes her to see faces and hear voices in inanimate objects. She begins to believe that everything from houses to cars to everyday household items are communicating with her and influencing her life in ways she never imagined possible.
The rest of the cast includes Heather Powell, Geri DeWitt, Caitlyn Murphy, Monica Beasely-Martin, Vicci Sfikas, Dean LaSalandra, Sarah Whitlatch and Chloe Jackson.
The show relies on a projection screen to give audience members a glimpse through the main character’s eyes. When everyday objects “come alive” and begin to speak, their photos are flashed on the screen. The ensemble cast members then provide the voices for the objects.
“Madhouse” will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through May 28 at Club Switch, 221 Belmont Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling 330-507-2358.
