Lit Youngstown reading showcases Olney writers

Lit Youngstown’s First Wednesday Readers Series presents editor Brandon Noel of Warren and contributors of Olney Magazine.

Olney Magazine was founded one year ago by Northeast Ohio poets Noel and Tony Wade to honor their former friend and mentor Maj Ragain of Kent. In 2021, they published three print issues, and the work of poets from around the world was shared weekly on OlneyMagazine.com.

Noel and Wade will open with one of Ragain’s favorite poems, followed by Olney contributors Cassandra Adams, Ryan Rowlands, Jason Melvin, Camille Ferguson, Sofia Fey and others who will read their work in person and remotely, live over Zoom.

Noel is the author of poetry collections “Mongrel” and “Infinite Halves” and the director of The Makeshift Poets. He is past guest editor of Gordon Square Review and Barren Magazine. He has been a full-time steel worker and machinist for the last 13 years.

The program starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Soap Gallery, 117 S. Champion St., Youngstown, and it will be followed by an open mic co-hosted by Daphne Carr. Admission is free.
