Iron Chef, CNN’s Gupta, ‘Science Guy’ to speak at YSU Lecture Series

An Iron Chef, a Netflix marketing guru, CNN’s chief medical reporter and a well-known “Science Guy” will be part of the 2021-22 Youngstown State University Lecture series.

Cleveland native Michael Symon comes to Youngstown as part of the Skeggs Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Oct. 7.

Symon has been chef / owner of several Cleveland area restaurants and also has dining establishments in Detroit and Atlantic City. He is the author of five cookbooks, the latest of which is “Fix It with Food.” He was a host on ABC’s “The Chew” and is a regular on several Food Network shows, including “Iron Chef.”

Speaking at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 as part of the Thomas Colloquium on Free Enterprise is Bozoma Saint John, chief marketing officer at Netflix.

She previously served as CMO of Endeavor, a global leader in entertainment, sports and fashion, and has worked as chief brand officer for Uber, head of global consumer marketing for Apple Music and iTunes, head of the music and entertainment marketing group at Pepsi-Cola North America and vice president of marketing for Ashley Stewart, a women’s fashion brand.

The Centofanti Symposium and Skeggs Lecture Series presents Sanjay Gupta, chief medical correspondent for CNN, at 7 p.m. March 23, 2022.

Gupta, a practicing neurosurgeon, plays an integral role in reporting on health and medical news for all of CNN’s shows, and he’s been a regular presence on the news channel during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has reported from war zones and natural disasters and covered a wide range of medical and scientific topics.

The final Skeggs speaker at 7 p.m. April 28, 2022, will be Bill Nye, a science educator and author who hosted “Bill Nye the Science Guy” in syndication and on PBS in the ’90s and currently hosts “Bill Nye Saves the Planet” on Netflix.

Nye was originally scheduled to speak in March 2020, but COVID-19 forced the cancellation of that appearance. He returns two years later to continue in his mission to help foster a scientifically literate society and help people understand and appreciate the science that makes the world work.

All of the lectures will be at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Admission is free, but tickets are required. Tickets are available now for Symon’s and Saint John’s lectures at the Stambaugh box office and online at www.stambaughauditorium.com. Tickets will be available starting Feb. 8, 2022, for Gupta and March 14, 2022, for Nye.
