OH WOW! admits grandparents free

OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology will offer free admission to grandparents on the last Thursday of the month.

The deal is sponsored by Briarfield and allows grandparents to explore the center with their families. The July date is today and applies to either the morning session from 9 to 11 a.m. or the afternoon session from noon to 2 p.m. Regular admission rates apply to others in the party.

In accordance with current CDC guidelines, OH WOW! will again be enforcing a mask mandate for explorers ages 5 and above.

JCC gallery offers vase-making class

The Paul and Yetta Gluck School of Visual Arts at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, is offering a four-week vase making workshop

Participants will create a vase of any shape, size and color of their choosing to match their space at home. The class meets from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays from Aug. 9 to 30.

The cost is $40 for JCC members and $55 for nonmembers. All supplies are included in the class fee. Go to jccyoungstown.org to register.

Salem federation hosts Hywett curator

The Salem Federation of Women’s Clubs will have a luncheon with the curator of Akron’s Stan Hywett Hall at 1 p.m. Aug. 8 at First Presbyterian Church, 436 E Second St., Salem.

Julie Frey, curator and director of museum services, will give a presentation on the Tudor revival style mansion, the Sieberling family and how they enjoyed life and welcomed guests from all over the world at the grand mansion.

Lunch will be served after the presentation. Tickets are $20, and reservations are required by calling 234-567-3098. A raffle for four tickets to Stan Hywett and an overnight stay at Mountaineer Casino Hotel will be offered.
