Tuesday Musical announces five Akron concerts

Tuesday Musical is bringing back its Akron Concert Series with stringent safety protocols, flexible attendance options and concert cancellation protection for subscribers.

The five-concert season — shifted to begin in the spring and reimagined in light of the ongoing pandemic — will include a barrier-breaking ensemble, an orchestra of voices and celebrated soloists at E.J. Thomas Hall, 198 Hill St.

“We’ve grappled with how, when and even if we could again share the joys of live music during these challenging times,” says Cynthia Snider, executive director of Tuesday Musical. “Now we’re moving forward, carefully and creatively, so that music lovers can enjoy safe and expertly curated concert experiences.”

Bass virtuoso Edgar Meyer, known for his collaborations with cellist Yo-Yo Ma, will open Tuesday Musical’s 133rd season on Thursday, March 4, with an intimate solo concert spanning classical to bluegrass.

Also on the season are superstar pianist Emanuel Ax on March 25, a cappella men’s choir Chanticleer on April 20 and Pacifica Quartet with principal clarinetist Anthony McGill of the New York Philharmonic on May 4.

The five-concert season will close May 26 with Sphinx Virtuosi, the barrier-breaking ensemble of Black and Latinx musicians drawn from some of the country’s top orchestras.

All subscriptions are $184 for five tickets and valid through next season if a concert is canceled this season or if a subscriber is uncomfortable attending because of health concerns.

With seating at a premium because of social distancing, single-concert tickets will only be sold closer to the concert dates if space is still available.

Tickets are on sale now online at tuesdaymusical.org and by calling 330-761-3460.
