‘A Christmas Story’ returns in Boardman

The Oakland Center for the Arts and its Kids First Theater Initiative is bringing back the musical version of “A Christmas Story” for a second year.

The stage version features a book by Joseph Robinette and a music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo that went on to win a Tony Award for the musical “Dear Evan Hansen” and an Academy Award for best original song for “City of Stars” from “La La Land.”

The musical is based on the work on humorist Jean Shepherd and the 1983 film adaptation about a boy named Ralphie whose only wish for Christmas is to get a Red Ryder BB gun.

Brendan Byers directs a cast that includes Jake Platt, James Matig, Jessica Joerndt, Justin Sargent, Tom McGoogan, Connor Pauley, Heather Livesay, Liam Corey, Zach Sargent, Logan Pauley, Lucas Knez, Ava Livesay, Raquel Allison, Lynnz Gonzalez, Cameron Keefer, Nevaeh Alkire, Savanna Watkins, Amelia Livesay, Halo Fellows, Kaci Nichols, Nicholas McGoogan, Zander Comauesca, Bryce Allison, Lily Sargent, Layla Crawford, Savanah Watkins, Andrea McGoogan, Corey Pauley and Cecily Herchek.

“A Christmas Story the Musical” will be staged 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Dec. 20 and 21 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday and Dec. 22 at Trinity Fellowship Church, 4749 South Ave., Boardman. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for senior citizens, $5 for students and free for children 4 and younger, and are available online at oaklandcenter.info and by calling 330-406-0606.
