Award-winning magician performs for Youngstown club

LEAVITTSBURG — A two-time world champion will headline the Youngstown Magic Club’s Night of Comedy & Magic at LaBrae High School Auditorium.

Canadian magician Shawn Farquhar has been featured on such television shows as “The X-Files” and “Highlander” as well as the films “Spooky House” and “The Fly II.” He appeared twice on the UK/CW series “Penn & Teller: Fool Us,” and did just that both times.

Farquhar is only magician to win both stage magician of the year and sleight of hand magician of the year from the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Other honors include 2003 magician of the year from the Canadian Association of Magicians, Grand Prix D’Honneur from the Pacific Coast Association of Magicians and 2009 grand prix world champion of magic at the Olympics of Magic in Beijing, China.

Also on the main stage will be Leavittsburg native Gary Morton, who has been performing for more than 40 years. He is an active member and past president of Ring 2 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and has performed at Hollywood’s Magic Castle. As an actor, Morton appeared on “Cheers” and “Night Court” as well as in the movie “Beverly Hills Cop 2.”

The main show starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the high school, 1001 N. Leavitt Road, Leavittsburg. Members of the Youngstown Magic Club will be performing strolling and close-up magic from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
