Hungarian church to close in August
YOUNGSTOWN — The Hungarian Presbyterian Church, 745 Mahoning Ave. in Youngstown, will close its doors with the final service set Aug. 3.
Diane Nemeth, clerk of the church, said a letter was sent to the church membership informing them of the closure and what will take place for the remaining weeks.
The letter states that after a thorough review with the EastMinster Presbytery and the church session, members have come to the realization that they can no longer continue services because of a lack of financial resources within the budgeted framework.
Services will continue at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday through Aug. 3.
The letter states that the congregation continues in Christian faith and the Holy Spirit will guide them in the future.
The Rev. Rebecca Kahnt will perform the final service with Holy Communion at 3 p.m. Aug. 3.
After the final service, a celebration fellowship will follow at 5 p.m. at Rachel’s Restaurant, 54 Westchester Drive, Austintown.
RSVP by calling or texting 330-402-0640 or call the church at 330-747-8760.
Nemeth said in the letter any personal or family items that have been donated to the church can be returned to the contributor as stated by Eastminster Presbytery unless it would deface or damage the actual church structure.
“It was decided by the session that the larger Hungarian inscribed items be donated to the Hungarian Museums or other Hungarian churches for use and display, and they have been contacted,” the letter states.
