Summer Vegetable Farm & Garden Tour
When: 6 p.m. today
What: Join OSU Extension every Monday through the summer to learn about growing vegetables and fruit, and to explore the farms and community gardens in Youngstown. Bring a lawn chair for seating or plants for identification/diagnosis.

Pressure Canner Testing
When: 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday
What: Before canning fresh vegetables and fruits from your garden or local market, conduct canner pressure gauge testing. The Extension office will host a one-day drive-thru testing.

Learning to Coexist with Black Bears
When: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday
What: Ohio is home to a small but growing population of black bears. It is important to understand a little about the biology and habits of the black bear if we are to coexist comfortably with this Ohio resident.

Pollinators in Urban Centers: Vacant Land Habitats
When: 5:30 p.m. June 15
What: Dr. Mary Gardiner will address the community of insects found in vacant lots, balancing the needs of people and insects in vacant lot design, how to establish native plants in degraded habitats, and the importance of the urban forest. Her extensive research in Cleveland will help attendees understand that blighted properties have possibilities as reimagined greenspaces to promote conservation and meet community goals for all neighbors.

Make-and-Take Garden Art
When: June 29 — first class 3 p.m.; second class, 5:30 p.m.
What: Join Pam in making hypertufa pots for the garden. These hypertufa pots will add beauty to landscape and last for many years. All supplies will be provided for in-person classes.

Naturalist Series: A concert of Crickets and Katydids
When: 6:30 p.m. July 7
What: As birds finish their season of song in late summer, crickets and katydids take the stage for nature’s final performances of the year. Dr. Lisa Rainsong of the Cleveland Institute of Music will introduce attendees to the members of this delightful ensemble and explain how to identify the singers of late summer and early autumn.
