TASTE OF FAITH: The Mahoning Valley Association of Churches has postponed the annual Taste of Faith originally scheduled for May 11. The MVAC plans to reschedule the festival that celebrates the foods of the congregations of the Mahoning Valley. For information, call 330-788-5914.

FESTIVALS CANCELED: St. Christine Parish has canceled its annual summer festival June 11 to 14 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festival committee at Christ Our Savior Parish in Struthers also decided to cancel its festival at St. Nicholas Church. Next year, the festival will be June 10-13, 2021.

The festival is still continuing the big raffle this year, with a chance to win $6,000. There will be early bird drawings leading up to the drawing on June 14. The parish asks people to buy or sell tickets and mail them to the parish office to the attention of the “Festival Ticket Chairman.”

DRIVE-IN STYLE: Mt. Jackson Presbyterian Church, 129 Mt. Air Road, New Castle Pa., is holding worship drive-in style in the parking lot 11 a.m. Sunday.

GLOBAL CELEBRATION: The Jewish National Fund will host “A Global Celebration: Israel’s 72nd Independence Day” at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The event will be broadcast on Facebook Live and include music, celebrity performances and interactive activities. Speaker is Jewish National Fund President Dr. Sol Lizerbram and his wife Lauren. STAY AT HOME: With Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine extending the stay-at-home order through May 1, the Catholic Bishops of Ohio have extended the temporary suspension of all publicly celebrated Masses / liturgies through and including May 3.

The Rev. Leo Wehrlin and the Rev. Simon Mino, priests of the Diocese of Youngstown, will celebrate Mass 10 a.m. each Sunday broadcast on WFMJ-TV 21.

All proceeds WFMJ raises will go to the Mahoning County Food Bank and Catholic Charities for those in need at this time.

NEED HELP: Catholic Charities in Youngstown, 144 W. Wood St., is in need of basic hygiene items, including body wash, bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, toilet paper and tissues. Items can be dropped off at the agency sites or ordered online through the Dollar Days Wishlist.

MEN’S RALLY IN VALLEY: The annual Men’s Rally in the Valley is scheduled to have the theme “Jesus Our Only Hope.” Event organizers announced the event has been changed to Oct. 10, at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown. The event will have the same five Christian speakers along with recording artist J.J. Weeks, Victory Christian Praise Band and testimonies from the Teen Challenge. MEN OF FAITH: The Men of Faith breakfast scheduled for May 2, has been postponed until June 6, at the new location in the Restaurant at The Youngstown-Warren Airport. The group’s last breakfast in March was a blessing with 100 men from about 25 different churches coming together in fellowship. The Men of Faith presented all the pastors in attendance “God’s Army” hats for their faithful service.

CHANTING MANTRAS: Unity Spiritual Centre in Liberty will hold Tuesday night Ongoing Metaphysics meeting 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. each week. JCC HELPS SENIORS: Jewish Family Services and Jewish Community Center of Youngstown are working with Direction Home of Eastern Ohio to enable individuals, under the Older Americans Act and the Emergency Pandemic Order, to receive home delivery of frozen meals at no cost.

Eligible individuals include those 60 and older residing in Mahoning County and northern Columbiana County regardless of income, and adults of any age who have a disabled child in their home.

Individuals are able to receive five meals per week, delivered weekly. For information, or to sign up for meal delivery, call Jewish Family Services at 330-746-7929.

RELIEF FUND: Youngstown Area Jewish Federation serves Heritage Manor Rehabilitation and Retirement Community, Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, Jewish Family Services and Levy Gardens Assisted Living. EASTER BASKET BLESSINGS: SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, 185 Laird Ave., Warren, will hold a Blessing of Food baskets 1 to 2 p.m. today in the church parking lot.

Holy Family Parish, 2729 Center Road, Poland, also will do the same at noon today with event to be livestreamed on Facebook.

People are to place their baskets on the roofs of their vehicles and a pastor or deacon will come around and bless them with holy water.

LIVESTREAMING EASTER: New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., Youngstown, will livestream its Easter service 10:30 a.m. Sunday on the church’s Facebook page.

New Covenant Church of the Nazarene in Youngstown will livestream at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION: The Bristolville United Methodist Church will be giving out bagged lunches for students in need from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday to Friday at the church as well as at the baseball fields in the center of Farmington.

THEOLOGY ON TAP: Theology on Tap of Youngstown will present its first virtual National Theology on Tap at 9 p.m. Thursday. People can watch on YouTube at youtu.be/3muXpXkcXIA.

Presenters will be the Rev. Agustino Torres, Sarah Swafford and Jason Evert.

The online session will not replace local Theology on Tap gatherings but to allow young adults to come together and grow as disciples during the times of business shutdowns and restrictions on congregating.

NEW ADMINISTRATOR: The Rev. J. Patrick Manning has been appointed by Bishop George Murry as administrator of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Warren.

Manning replaces the Rev. Peter Haladej, who resigned for personal reasons as pastor last month after serving a year-and-a-half at the parish.

Manning, who was ordained in 1978, has served the parishes of St. Joseph Parish in Ashtabula, St. John Parish in Canton, Kent Newman Center, St. Peter of the Fields Parish in Rootstown, Regina Coeli Parish in Alliance and St. Joseph Parish, Maximo.

He was a faculty member and associate principal at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Louisville, and associate principal and catechist at John F. Kennedy High School, Warren.

In 2004, Manning was named institutional vice rector / vice president of the Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, and in 2009 chair of the theology department at Walsh University, Canton.

Manning received his doctorate in Roman Catholic Systematic Theology from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and also holds advanced degrees in religious education and pastoral theology.

PALMS DISTRIBUTION: Many area churches are distributing palms by drive-through pickup this weekend for Palm Sunday.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Niles, 381 Robbins Ave., will hand out blessed palms and Easter candles 2 to 4 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to noon Sunday.

St. Luke Church, 5235 South Ave., Boardman, will do so 4:30 p.m. today and Sunday morning at church.

St. Christine Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave, Youngstown, will hand out palms 4 to 7 p.m. today at the church, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 4490 Norquest Ave., Austintown, will do so noon to 2 p.m. Sunday.
