In the July 21 paper, there was a “protest” decrying that President Trump is taking away our Constitutional rights one by one. It appears the people in the photo forgot the imperial and tyrannical presidency of Joe Biden. What rights has Trump tried to take away? What started under Trump with the closing of the economy was taken far further under Biden. They don’t remember the draconian measures forced on us by this tyrant. A day of fun at Wick Recreation Area

DEAR EDITOR: With all of the negative publicity Mill Creek MetroParks sometimes receives, I wanted to share a recent uplifting experience. My 7-year-old granddaughter was visiting from California, and I had the chance to spend a morning with her. I decided to take her to the splash park at the Wick Recreation Area on the West Side. When we arrived, a day camp was already there enjoying the facility. Children of all backgrounds were laughing, playing and making the most of the water features. Jan. 6 at the Capitol was indeed a riot

DEAR EDITOR: In a recent letter to the editor, a New Middletown writer asked, “What is a riot or a peaceful march?” The Jan. 6 attack on our Capitol was a riot. It is unforgivable and should be burned in our minds forever. Trump calls the rioters patriots because they did it at his urging. Once back in office, he immediately gave them all full pardons and any mention of Jan. 6 is being purged from government records. “We the people” paid for the repairs of the damage they did that day. DEAR EDITOR: Did you know there is a bronze plaque that was made to honor the police officers who defended the U.S. Capitol and fought the mobs that attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021? Despite House Speaker Mike Johnson saying he would display it for all visitors to see, it has STILL not been put up. Instead, it is in a storeroom. Public-broadcasting cuts signal dark days

DEAR EDITOR: Our Republican-led Congress, acting on orders from 47, voted to rescind previously allocated funds that supported public media. They at least dropped the facade that this cut had anything to do with limiting spending, as the money saved by the cut amounted to a little less than ½ of 1% of the federal budget. Sen. DEAR EDITOR: Long ago, I signed up for monthly donations to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (NPR and PBS) and seldom regretted it. Although some of its programming is a bit woke for my taste, our nation’s unvarnished history and an alternative take of certain events give us a different perspective to consider as we form our opinions and vote. PBS and NPR are accessible with an inexpensive TV antenna and FM radio for those who don’t have or can’t afford cable TV.
