Rulli should defend his vote in person

DEAR EDITOR: I’m disappointed in Rep. Michael Rulli’s support for the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” which includes damaging cuts to Medicaid. For many in our community, Medicaid is a lifeline — not a luxury. By backing these cuts, Rep. Rulli is turning his back on seniors, children and working families who rely on that coverage. Worse, he’s doing it without facing the people it affects. If Rep. Rulli believes this bill is good for our district, he should explain it in a public town hall — not just in press releases or party-line votes. Let us ask questions. Let him ...

Some differences after moving to Ohio

DEAR EDITOR: I moved to the Mahoning Valley from Erie County, Pa., for a position at the LG chem plant. I was surprised at the lax consumer protections in Ohio as compared to Pennsylvania. The first thing I noticed was how Ohio gas stations price spread fuel grades. In Ohio there is at least a $1.00 price spread between 87 and 93 octane; some stations have a $1.50 price spread! In Pennsylvania, it’s usually 60/70 cents. The second thing, Ohio businesses are not required by law to post signs if they pass swipe fees onto consumers. My biggest pet peeve is when I try to support a ...

Organization honors nurses in region

DEAR EDITOR: Recently the Nurse Honor Guard of Eastern Ohio participated in funeral services I attended for a nurse here in our community. As a nurse myself, I was so moved by their presentation, it was truly wonderful! As nurses, we are not always appreciated and treated poorly at times despite our hard work and dedication. Your presence showed everyone how sacred a duty this person performed during her time here with us. Thank you for honoring our noble profession! LISA WHITE Lake Milton

Those who do good often end up dead

DEAR EDITOR: History tells us that anyone who does good for “We the People” will be assassinated. First, we had Jesus of Nazareth. He said feed the poor, heal the sick and those without sin cast the first stone. Jesus didn’t know it at the time — he was a Democrat, he rode a small donkey, not a big elephant. Somebody conspired. Sound familiar? The Romans, to crucify him, nailed him to a cross until he was dead. In today’s world, Republican Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” takes food from the poor, health care for the handicapped on Medicaid and closes rural ...

Sound off!

Facts: Every word out of Trump’s mouth is a lie. The economy IS worse under Trump. Climate change is real. Departments and bureaus are being led by total incompetents. Tariffs are nothing more than TAXES. We, not them, are paying these taxes. Ghislaine Maxwell IS a very dangerous pedophile who cannot be allowed freedom. Trump’s big mouth may end in a war with Russia. Most of what Trump blabs about are deflections from Project 2025’s effort to rule our country. — Liberty Mayor Brown is concerned about safety in downtown Youngstown! Back when he divided millions equally to each ...

How about using stop-and-frisk to curb violence?

DEAR EDITOR: Well boys and girls, a few more shootings and a stabbing or two. Have you had enough yet? Stop-and-frisk doesn’t seem all that bad when you consider it might have saved the lives of a few more people. This movement will not sit well with a lot of people, but it is time that the city administration took a new approach to curbing gun violence in Youngstown. The people must do their parts in stepping up and assisting law enforcement to reduce this problem. Far too many lives are cut short by senseless acts of violence. JAMES EIDEL Beaver Township
