Sheetz construction gets closer in Cornersburg

YOUNGSTOWN — Demolition work at the former Rite Aid at 3525 Canfield Road in Cornersburg will begin in late summer or early fall to prepare the property for construction of a Sheetz convenience store. The company, founded in Altoona, Pa., confirmed the schedule Monday. A Mahoning County Building Department worker said the office received plans from Sheetz last week. Suspect in South Side attempted murder case enters not guilty plea by reason of insanity

YOUNGSTOWN — The attorney for James Sunderman, 19, of Hayes Avenue in McDonald, filed a written not guilty by reason of insanity plea Monday to attempted murder, felonious assault and kidnapping in a May incident on Youngstown’s South Side. Sunderman was arraigned Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, with Magistrate Nicole Butler continuing the $200,000 bond set in May for Sunderman in Youngstown Municipal Court. Weathersfield resident loses home to fire

WEATHERSFIELD — Township fire officials are investigating the cause of a Monday house fire in the 2700 block of Anderson Morris Road that left a resident homeless. Fire crews from Weathersfield were called out Monday to the fire in a second floor bedroom and attic area of the 3.5-floor house. Fire Chief Tom Lambert said the owner was in a bedroom when she saw smoke and was able to get out of the house without injury.
