Transitioning into a new era at The Vindicator
By now, you have probably heard the news that starting April 6, The Vindicator will debut a brand new “Weekend Edition” that will be delivered to your homes Saturday morning and will remain on newsstands throughout the weekend.
I know this transition for our newspaper brings up a lot of questions. What happens to the Sunday paper? Will I still get the TV book? The comics? The Life section? All of these are valid questions and I will try to answer as many of them as I can throughout this column because I know this is a big change. Actually, seeing how we were one of the remaining few newspapers in Ohio that delivered seven days a week, it’s a massive one.
So where do I start?
First, the “Weekend Edition” is going to contain everything that was in both the Saturday and Sunday editions of this newspaper. The TV book, Saturday and Sunday comics, Letters to the Editor and the Business / Opinion and Life sections, aren’t going anywhere. In fact, the Business / Opinion and Life sections will be expanded to include Sound Offs, Orchids and Onions, the Saturday comics and much more. They have been staples of The Vindicator for so long and they will remain that way.
As far as the lengthy enterprise-type stories that we produce for Sunday papers, those aren’t going anywhere either. They will become the highlight of our “Weekend Edition” as we strive to continue this paper’s tradition of hard-hitting, investigative journalism, which is something that you, our readers, have come to expect. We as a staff have an immense amount of pride in delivering these types of stories every week as they hold local governments responsible, expose falsehoods and inform the readers of important issues that are happening throughout the Mahoning Valley. They will also be complemented by the daily news coverage that is delivered each week. So the paper that arrives on your doorstep will be bigger and will contain more information. Essentially, the new “Weekend Edition” will contain expanded News and Sports sections.
There will be slight adjustments when it comes to deadlines for content that you submit to run in the “Weekend Edition.” The deadline to submit Letters to the Editor and Sound Offs will be moved to Monday afternoon. So if you have anything you would like to submit for the first “Weekend Edition” on April 6, please try to have it submitted by tomorrow afternoon. Email your submissions to editorial@tribtoday.com or soundoff@tribtoday.com so we have time to process them. Remember, as always, Letters to the Editor are limited to 450 words and Sound Offs are limited to 80 words.
As I already stated, we understand this is a big change, even for us, but change brings opportunity. This new approach gives us a chance to look at what we do in a new light, while also sticking to the tradition of providing top-tier journalism for our readers. I believe when you have the first copy of our “Weekend Edition” in your hands on April 6, you’ll understand what I mean. While this may be a shock at first, I think you will soon come to love the thicker paper that will be delivered to your doorstep every Saturday morning.
The high-quality content that we produce every week isn’t going anywhere, you’re just receiving it a day earlier.
