BOARDMAN -- Police are still investigating after at least two Glenwood Avenue apartments were struck by bullets late Monday night.
A Boardman police report, made public Thursday, said police responded to multiple calls about gunfire near 4011 Glenwood Ave. about 10:40 p.m. Monday.
They discovered damage to windows in two apartments on the northeast side of the complex and recovered 19 spent shell casings.
Two women standing outside the building told police they heard roughly five gunshots. Police found a damaged window in their apartment and discovered a bullet had entered a bedroom through the ceiling above a bed.
The women told police they had not had any recent problems with anyone and had heard nothing unusual before the gunfire. One said she did not want to pursue charges.
Another resident told police she was visiting a friend in the complex when she heard three or four gunshots nearby. She ran back inside and remained there until officers arrived.
The report states a man who had just returned home told police he witnessed the shooting while walking toward the building. He said he saw someone firing a handgun straight into the air from the northeast corner of the complex.
The man told police the person then ran into the building through the northeast entrance, which leads to the first floor. He could not describe the person’s appearance or the gun.
Police also found that a window in another apartment had been struck by gunfire but were unable to contact the occupants at the time. When they returned home, they told police they wanted to pursue charges because of damage to two windows. They also told police they had heard frequent arguments in an apartment above theirs, although they could not identify the people involved.
Police also found damage in a third-floor apartment, including an entry hole through a bedroom window and another through an exterior wall. Investigators found a bullet jacket fragment on a bed and documented additional bullet entry holes near the window.
Police recovered nine spent shell casings near the top of a stairway leading to a laundry area and 10 others on the steps. The casings were identified as 9 mm ammunition bearing Aguila, CCI and Ruger markings.
Police also checked the building for possible surveillance recordings. A camera on the east entrance faced the northeast side of the property.
No injuries were reported in the police report, and no suspect was identified. The investigation remains open.
