YSU men drubbed

DAYTON — Youngstown State senior Naz Bohannon became the 39th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points, but the Penguins dropped a 93-55 decision to Wright State on Saturday afternoon at the Nutter Center, one day after beating the Raiders 74-72 on a buzzer-beater on national television.

Freshman Alex Vargo scored a career-high 16 points to lead the Penguins while freshman Myles Hunter added a career-best 13 points. Bohannon added seven points with seven rebounds and now has 1,003 career points. YSU fell to 7-5 overall and 3-5 in the Horizon League.

Wright State (8-3, 6-2) placed six players in double figures led by Tanner Holden’s 24 points and 10 rebounds.

The Penguins shot just 30.5 percent from the field while Wright State connected on 51.5 percent from the floor. The Raiders made 10 3-pointers and outrebounced the Penguins, 51-29.

Wright State never trailed. After YSU tied the game at 2, the Raiders scored 18 of the next 20 points.
