Obiazor selected Horizon League Freshman of the Week once again

For a second-consecutive week, Youngstown State forward Nneka Obiazor was named the Nike Horizon League Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

Obiazor has claimed the award in two of the three weeks she’s been eligible this season. She was one rebound away from averaging a double-double for the second straight week as she posted 21 points and 19 rebounds in two wins at UIC.

The highlight was when she hit a tie-breaking 3-pointer with less than a minute remaining on Saturday as the Penguins won 66-59. That punctuated a 19-point performance in which she was 8-for-10 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds. She had 11 rebounds on Friday.

Through the first six games of her career, Obiazor ranks fourth in the Horizon League with 8.3 rebounds per game. She also is fourth in field-goal percentage (.476), and 12th in scoring (12.5).

YSU returns home to host Detroit Mercy in a two-game Horizon League series this weekend at Beeghly Center.
