YSU women beat Detroit by 15

DETROIT — Quinece Hatcher scored 11 of her career-high 15 points in the third period to help the Youngstown State women’s basketball team beat Detroit Mercy 62-47 on Saturday afternoon at Calihan Hall.

The Penguins outscored the Titans 27-8 in the third quarter to turn a two-point halftime deficit into a 17-point, 52-35 advantage through 30 minutes. Following a win at Oakland on Thursday, YSU completed the weekend sweep to improve to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in Horizon League play.

Hatcher finished 5-of-9 from the field, and she was also 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Chelsea Olson posted 15 points, eight rebounds and two blocks, and Jen Wendler added 11 points. Maddie Schires made three 3s, and Taylor Petit had eight points and eight rebounds in her return from a three-game injury absence.

Youngstown State will host Green Bay on Friday at 7 p.m.
