Reed, others honored by MVFC

Youngstown State defensive end Justus Reed was named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference first team, the league announced Monday.

Reed, a junior who missed all of last year with an injury, tied for the league high in sacks with 13. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Reed also had 19 tackles for loss.

He was one of six selections for the Penguins and the only first-team honoree. John F. Kennedy graduate Jacob Coates was named to the second team as a return specialist. He led the league in punt return yardage (353, a YSU record) and averaged 11 yards per return (second best in the conference). He returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown against Robert Morris and also had an 81-yard return that set up a score for the Penguins.

Defensive end Ma’lik Richmond was a second-team pick. He had 47 tackles, 10.5 TFLs and nine sacks on the year. Wide receiver Jermiah Braswell, offensive lineman Dan Becker and tight end Miles Joiner were all honorable-mention selections.
